Essentially, this article discusses an introduction to psychology, its history, and its role in society. The study of psychology is basically the ”study of the mind” or the ”science of mind”.

I wrote the article ”Introduction to Psychology” as a primer to help my readers better understand the human condition and their mentality and motivate them to pursue learning.

PSYCHOLOGY AS AN APPLIED SCIENCE:

The study of psychology helps us solve practical problems we face as humans.

Now I will give you 10 solid reasons why psychology is a science.

  • It forecasts and understands human behavior.
  • The program determines how to interpret and use the data.
  • It checks whether demand is valid about human behavior.
  • It understands how memory and learning work or function.
  • It understands ambiguous behavior.
  • The test measures how well one can cope with change.
  • It knows how to work within proper networks of organizations, and it does so energetically.
  • Able to cope with many stressful situations.
  • Achieves projects with less knowledge and experience.
  • It shows stamina during tough times.

When it comes to defining psychology, we know countless definitions are depending on one’s perspective.

HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY:

1: WILHELM WUNDT:

There was a psychological institution established at Leipzig University in 1879 by a man named Wilhelm Wundt.

Psychology was taught here for the first time.

Wilhelm Wundt is known as the “Father of Psychology”.

According to him:

“Psychology is an inspection of person’s feelings, thoughts and expressions, and person’s willpower”.

2: RUDOLPH GOLAK:

He defined Psychology in 1590 based on his perspective.

According to him,

“Psychology is derived from two words i-e Psyche means soul and logos means knowledge”.

So he concluded that:

“Psychology is the science of the soul.”

3: ARISTOTLE:

According to Aristotle:

“Psychology is all about the study of the soul. According to him, life is meaningless without the soul.”

4: WILLIAM JAMES:

According to him:

“Psychology is defined as the “description and explanation of states of consciousness”.

5: WATSON:

Wilhelm Wundt’s definition, however, was later on rejected for the same reason, namely, no consideration was given to behavior.

So according to Watson’s perspective:

“Psychology is the study of human nature and behavior”.

6: ROBERT S WOOD WORNTH & NL MUNN:

According to them,

“Psychology is the scientific investigation of behavior”.

“Psychology is the science of mental activities of an organism”.

“Psychology can be defined as the study of behavior and mental processes”.

ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGY IN HUMAN LIFE:

Since Psychology is an applied field, it can be applied in many areas of human life.

Psychology helps us understand how our bodies and minds function. As a result, you learn to better understand other people.

In summary, psychology is crucial for human survival.

According to me, you might have gained some basic knowledge about an “Introduction to Psychology Study Guide” after reading this article.
